  • Honeypot

Honeypot's vision is for every child to make the most of their one chance at childhood. Since 1996 the charity has been working to enhance the lives of vulnerable children and young carers aged 5-12 by providing residential respite breaks and on-going outreach support. Honeypot gives young carers a break from demanding and stressful responsibilities at home and provide a safe, nurturing environment where children at risk can develop their full potential.

Of the children that Honeypot support most are young carers who juggle their education alongside performing a surrogate adult role. Many of them care for a chronically or terminally ill loved one, or have a parent with drug, alcohol or mental health problems. Some will have been in a caring role from as young as 5 years old, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We have proudly supported Honeypot for three years through a range of activities including sponsored trialthalons, car wash days and hosting networking lunches to name but a few. Having seen first hand the benefit our fundraising activities, it serves only to motivate us to generate more funds. We hope that you will continue to support us.

  • South Downs College
South Downs College is an 'outstanding College' (OFSTED) and the largest provider of further education in the region. The Hospitality, Catering and Travel Curriculum area is recognised locally and nationally for provision reflected in accreditation as a Centre of Excellence by the National Skills Academy for Hospitality and Restaurant Magazine's 2009 UK College Restaurant of the Year.

We have established links with the College for many years, and these links continue to develop.  We work together providing vocational awareness opportunities for College Staff, participation on the College's Employer Focus Advisory Group at College Open Evenings, and our Head Chef has managed a 'Guest Chef ' dinner in the College Restaurant and regularly visits the College contributing to practical assessment, competitions and on a curriculum advisory basis. We also offer opportunities for student and staff visits, tours, shadowing, presentations and project activity.  In addition, the managers of both establishments meet regularly as a result of activities of the Greater Portsmouth Hoteliers Association. We have provided opportunities on management training schemes, and as part of the Hotel's continued professional development programmes Hotel staff from time to time enrol on specialist part time courses at the College.

'The Solent Hotel is considered by South Downs College as one of the regions premier establishments with an open and professional approach to providing opportunities to enhance relations and the further education process. The College is most proud to maintain the highest level of relations with Management and staff at the hotel and considers this to be of outstanding benefit to its provision'.

Gerry Shurman, Head of Catering Hospitality & Travel, South Downs College
